The new way of looking at horse racing

Want a tip for Happy Wednesday tonight?

The weather gods are playing up again, so trying to tip you a winner for tonight is no stroll in the park. One sure thing is the renewed battle for supremacy when it comes to the Hong Kong Jockey Premiership between Zac Purton and Joao Moreira.

Both will be amongst the winners again with the Zac Attack looking to have the better book of rides.

Leading by three winners, it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, if the Magic Man doesn’t eat into this lead tonight. But can he?

Away from the dynamic duo, there’s another battle going on. This is between Matthew Poon and Derek Leung for the Tony Cruz Award, both pictured below, given to the most successful local rider.

So the jockeys to follow tonight are, we think, Purton, Moreira, Poon and Leung, Karis Teetan with Caspar Fownes looking like he can train at least a double.

RACE 1

We make it a point to never bet on the first two races. Just chill.

But if you really really REALLY would like to have a try, below are some suggestions. Both Paddington and Peace On Earth are good outsiders despite Moreira being on the favourite Carry To Win. We might even leave it out completely.

Peace On Earth (2) Showing Character (1) Rugby Diamond (9) Paddington (7)

RACE 2

Gold Velvet (9) Starlit Knight (7) Open House (4) Diamond Friends (8)

RACE 3

As we’ve said many many times here, the favourite very rarely wins this race- the first leg of the Six Up. Time and time again, the favourites have bit the dust and Six Ups have become as useless as a 7Up. Or being dressed up with nowhere to go.

In an open betting race, the overnight favourite was Good Companion (6), no doubt because the galloper is trained by Derek Cruz, below, who is doing all he can to reach the sixteen winners needed to have his licence renewed so that he can stay to fight another season.

Tonight, there’ll probably be money for Formula Galore (11) and the team of Fownes and Moreira. But this season, the combination of the magic man and The King Of Happy Valley have failed to deliver the goods in the way they once did, all of which screams out, Danger Ahead and an upset.

Tread warily here and don’t even leave out longshot Best Runner which has shown no form, but could suddenly wake up for Almond Lee, another trainer needing to make the required numbers to continue training in Hong Kong.

Good Companion (6) Formula Galore (11) Roman Odyssey (1) Dr Race (5)

RACE 4

Noble Delight (6) looks an air tight banker in the first leg of the Triple Trio and should go close to winning for the Mauritian magician and Karismatic one Karis Teetan who’s had another successful season and will end up third in the jockey premiership.

Noble Delight (6) Applause (11) Amazing Race (5) Telecom Man (8)

RACE 5

Golden Kid (8) Happy Rocky (5) King’s Man (2) Garlic Yeah (3)

RACE 6

If the Zac Attack takes out the race earlier, watch Joao Moreira return serve and take this out on the John Size trained Zero Hedge (11).

Zero Hedge (11) Shanghai Master (2) Bulb Elite (10) Wonderful Journey (3)

RACE 7

Another Caspar Fownes runner should be to the fore here and possibly another winner for Zac Purton in Friends Of Ka Ying (1). After a somewhat quiet spell, the King of the Valley looks set to end this meeting firing on all cylinders.

Friends Of Ka Ying (1) Let’s Take It Easy (7) Lucky Time (9) Super Form (3)

RACE 8

Turin Redstar (7) Calculation (1) Winning Faith (8) Pretty Bauhinia (9)

BEST BET

Race 6 Zero Hedge (11)

Race 7 Friends Of Ka Ying (1)
