The new way of looking at horse racing

WHAT IF?

On December 11, Hong Kong hosts two truly International events- the Hong Kong International Races and the Clockenflap Music & Arts Festival.

One takes place at Shatin Racecourse and where the world’s greatest jockeys, horses and trainers do battle.

It’s full of names known to racing enthusiasts like Ryan Moore, Gerard Mosse, Maxime Guyon, Douglas Whyte, Craig Williams, Frankie Dettori and horses like Byword, Dunaden and Ambitious Dragon.

While Shatin will be the place where the Champions Of The Turf meet to do battle, at West Kowloon Cultural Centre will be Clockenflap.

Starved for a bona fide music and arts Festival and though not on the same scale as Glastonbury, Denmark’s Roskilde and Japan’s Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic Festivals, this is a major event for Hong Kong.

With the worlds of entertainment today, What If, we thought, there was some way to bring these two events together?

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has already done more for the local music industry with its Happy Wednesday events at Happy Valley and where music, fashion and a truly International group of people come together along with horse racing.

With Hong Kong racing managing to attract a younger market more consistently than any other racing jurisdiction and Hong Kong music lovers needing to stand up and be heard, surely there must be a way where these two events which will certainly help this city’s boast of being “Asia’s World City” not just an advertising copywriter’s cutesy slogan, come together?

Let’s not waste make this opportunity to market the crap outta Hong Kong and make our efforts to market this city look as ridiculous as those ribbons flowing from the arse of the dragon logo which symbolizes “Asia’s World City”.
