Every horse owner dreams of winning The Derby.
Apart from the pomp and circumstance of winning Saturday’s BMW Derby, a Derby winner is usually be a horse than can go onto much greater things.
This season, there are those racing pundits who don’t think those trying to win themselves into this prestigious are below par. Rubbish!
The BMW Derby is in March and much can happen between then and now. Eight aspiring horses hoping to get into the Derby race in different races at Shatin on Saturday, most owned by long-time Hong Kong horses.
But with horse racing seeing a changing of the guard and new faces being seen in the owners’ ranks, we’re betting that the Richard Gibson-trained Mizani (R7, #7) and owned by the daughter of prominent owner Robert Ng, will not only win its race on Saturday, it will show the increasing generation gap that exists today in racing and where it’s out with the old and in with the new.
We’re also betting that “new kid” to Hong Kong racing- Richard Gibson- will train this year’s Derby winner.
